SURF

Surf is a sport that people practise in the beach. It consists to make movements in a surfboard over a wave. It is a very interesting sport, very complicated and it is a therapy to treat disability, too. Many children have improved their lifestyle thanks to surf.
This sport has been practiced for 500 years.
One of the most importants cities in which people practise surf is Hawaii. It is a very beautiful city with a lot of beaches with large and unusual waves. There are many beaches in which people can practise surf. In Spain, for example, you can practise or watch it in Santa Pola, Euskadi, Alicante, Tenerife, Tarragona or Galicia. The best beaches in which people practise surf are Pipeline (O´Ahu, Hawai) which is considerated like the Sistine Chapel of surf, Jefferys Bay (Sudafrica), Mavericks (California), Mundaka (Spain) and my favourite, Superbank (Australia).

Visit these beaches can be a great experience and if you can practise surf, it could be better.

Surfers have always a good temper.

Bill Hamilton is an important surfer. He was born in Long Beach, California in August 27, 1948. Since he was a child he has lived with the sea and waves. His stepson, Laird Hamilton, is considered the best big waves surfer in history, he has had a very difficult life, but surf saves him. He could dump his energy excess in surf. He was the first surfer to complete a 360º, the first to jump up to ten meters at his windsurfing... But he has always been a very humble person and he has never liked fame. Now, he has a wife and three daughters.

ASP world tour is a surf competition in which men and women surfers compete to be the best in the world.
In this year, the male competitors ranking is: 1. Mick Fanning, 2. Kelly Slater, 3. Joel Parkinson and 4. Jordy Smith. And the female is 1. Carissa Moore, 2. Tyler Wright, 3. Sally Fitzgibbons and 4. Coutney Conlogue.

This is a video of the ASP World Tour of this year, and then, you have a video of Carissa Moore in 2011:

There are a lot of films and series well documentated in surf, such as Persiguendo Maverick, Billabong Odyssey, Soul Surfer, Blue Water High...
"Surfing is one of the few sports that you have to look forward to see what's behind them." Laird Hamilton.
"It's like the mafia, once you are inside there is no way to go out." Kelly Slater
"I think that when an individual becomes a surfer, it's like an obligation to be an environmentalist at the same time." Kelly Slater
"It's not tragic to die doing something you want." Mark Foo
"Waves are not measured in feet and inches, they are measured in increments of fear." Buzzy Trent
"The ocean is so magnificent, peaceful and awesome. The rest of the world disappears for me when I'm on a wave." Paul Walker.

  1. Wow! Awesome entry! :)
Although I think surf is a very difficult and sometimes dangerous sport, I've always wanted to try to do it. But, If we allow as a practise of this sport (I think not) stand above a mini-surfboard during four seconds, I've done it ;)
The people who practise this sport are geniuses for me. You have to pay attention to many things at the same time: the wind, the wave height, the balance above the surfboard...it's too stressful!
María, have you ever play this interesting sport?

  2. I'm agree with you, sometimes it is dangerous and you have to pay attention to many things when you are above the wave. I have never practise it because I haven't got the opportunity but I have a surfboarding that is from one person of my family and I have friends who practise it. I hope this summer will try it. Thanks for your opinion!

  3. Fantastic job one more time. A fascinating lifestyle and a very exciting sport. Water, clean air, nature and emotion are a perfect combination.

The surf looks like a very fun and exciting sport, but it can be dangerous. Would you like to the practise some day? What other sport do you like?
