THE RASMUS
The Rasmus is a gothic and symphonic rock band,
originally from the city of Helsinki wich is formed is 1994.The original band
members were Lauri Ylönen, Pauli Rantasalmi, Eero Heinonen and Jarno Lahti left
a year later and was replaced in 1995 by Janne Heiskanen who quit the band in
1998 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala.
The Rasmus has sold 4 million copies in the world, of
which 400,000 copies were sold in its native Finland.
The band played their first concert in their school
Christmas party before December 23 of 1994. In December 1995, they debuted with
their first single "1st", which includes songs like; Funky Jam,
Myself, and Frog. Just a couple of weeks of release, it sold 1000 copies. In
1996 they released their debut album Peep through Warner Music Finland, the
next year the band won an EMMA for Best Newcomer 1996. Lauri and Pauli decided
to leave school to focus on Rasmus and August 29 released their second album
Playboys. 1998 marked the release of the third album by The Rasmus Hell of a
Tester. The album was released on 2 November and marks a change in musical style
from funk to rock. The album received gold status in Finland. The most popular
single was "Liquid", which was released in September to enter the Top
40 of MTV Nordic. It was voted Single of the Year for 1998 by music critics and
fans, the video won an award in 1999 in Finland Video Music Awards. In 2000 the
band changed its name to The Rasmus to avoid the confusion with the name
Swedish musician DJ with the same name. Later in 2000, the band began working
with Martin Hansen and Micke Nord in Sweden for their next album, leaving the
entire style funk topop rock to change it. The March 21 of 2003, The Rasmus
released their second album, "Dead Letters". Dead Letters sold 1.7
million copies worldwide and launched the band to fame, they receiving eight
gold albums and 6 music awards platinum certification.
The album was recorded at Nord Studios in Sweden.
Rasmus also in 2005 again won the MTV Europe Award, this time for Best Finnish
Artist, competing with bands like HIM, Apocalyptica, Nightwish and The 69 Eyes.
During 2006 the band toured extensively throughout the
world, which includes visits to Mexico, Germany, South Africa, United States
and several Latin American countries. On April 28 of that year were winners of
the Polish ESKA Music Awards, in the category of Best Rock International.

-Pauli Rantasalmi
He is the guitarist. He Born in Helsinki on May in 1979.
He has been a member since the band was formed. Not only plays guitar, he also
plays other instruments. In addition to directing and producing other bands
like Kwan, Von Hertzen Brothers and Happiness. He has won an Emmy as Best
Producer Gaala, and has participated in a Finnish musical film called Pitkä
Kuuma Kesä.
-Aki Haklaa
He is the drummer. He had born in Espoo, in the
Helsinki Metropolitan Area, on 28 October 1979. He studied at a music school.
He joined the band after original drummer, Janne.
- Eero Heinonen
Is bassist and makes live vocals. He was born on
November 27 1979. Member is more "calm" of the band and practice Yoga,
as well as being a follower of a branch of Hinduism in 1999.
